The Foundation’s Gala Committee is very excited about this year’s big event.  We have been concentrating our efforts on two important goals:  first  to make the evening more affordable while still maintaining the grand style that makes Gala so much fun AND second is to increase awareness of how crucial the money raised at Gala is to improve our school and enhance our children’s education. (The Gala is the Foundation’s only fund raising event each year.)

This year’s ticket price is 33% less than in previous years – $50 per person.  Our Gorrie families and friends will get the following great benefits:

*     Enjoy the evening in a wonderful Ybor City landmark. The recently updated Ritz Ybor (no relation to the Ritz hotel chain) was originally built in 1917 as the Rivoli Theatre and later expanded in the 1930’s as The Ritz Theatre. This spectacular/cool/funky venue, located in the heart of Ybor City, is something that you will definitely want to see. Valet parking will be available, and a public parking garage is right behind the Ritz.

*     Back by popular demand again this year is Casino Night! Gaming tables will be set up with the tables opening at 6:00PM and lasting until 9:00PM.

*     Dinner will be served buffet style throughout the evening to allow everyone to eat at their leisure; so there will be plenty of time to bid, bet, eat, and be merry!

*     We are fortunate to have Fernando Diez performing for our Foundation fundraiser.  Fernando plays the saxophone and is part of Gloria Estefan’s band.

*     Two other important (and fun!) ways we raise funds at the Gala for our School are through the incredible silent auction items and the always thrilling live auction. Silent auction items start at $20; so you don’t have to bring a pot of gold to participate and still help your school.

*     Dress is casual to “Italiano”, whatever your mood!

Come join fellow Gorrie teachers, staff, and parents at the Gala and help support the Gorrie Foundation which has provided, and continues to provide, so many valuable programs for our school and our children including: Technology support (funding for ongoing computer support, Elmos, Smart Boards, etc.) Educational support (extra art and music supplies, teacher training, Suzuki violin support, MAGIC afterschool programs, etc.); and Facilities enhancements (the perimeter fencing, Basketball goals, the Coliseum, landscape materials, etc.).

The purpose of the Foundation is to receive donations and grants of money or property of any kind or value and disburse funds in order to preserve and record the history of Gorrie Elementary School, promote public education, support the curriculum of Gorrie Elementary School, beautify Gorrie Elementary School and its grounds, and advance any other lawful purpose not for pecuniary profit that relates to Gorrie Elementary School, and such other exclusively religious, charitable, scientific, literary and education purpose within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) on the Internal Revenue Code.

Any Member in good standing with Gorrie Elementary PTA shall be a general member of the Foundation. The Management of the Foundation, and the direction and control of its assets, liabilities, income, and expenses shall be vested in its Board of Directors. The Foundation’s fiscal year is from July 1 to June 30.
