What We Do

The Foundation was established to raise funds to address immediate and long term goals of Gorrie students and faculty, which can not be met utilizing the budget provided by the school Board of Hillsborough County. The Foundation supports numerous academic, enrichment, technology, after-school, and arts programs for the students of Gorrie Elementary. These programs have aided our students and our school community in consistently achieving honors and recognitions, including: The National Blue Ribbon Award as a School of Excellence, The Golden School Award, The Five Star School award for community involvement, State of Florida Grade A school designation, and Federal AYP designation.

The Gorrie Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization and any donation is tax deductible.

The Arts:

Foundation purchased appropriately sized violins & sheet music for the students and in 2009 agreed to pay for a portion of the salary of Mr. Jefferies, our Suzuki violin instructor, whose position was eliminated by the Hillsborough County School Board.

In 2008-2009 Foundation spent over $3,000.00 supplementing the Art and Music Department budget for Gorrie Elementary and there will be a vote on a similar supplementation for this academic year at our December board meeting.

Technology:

In the 2008-2009 academic year, PTA and Foundation funded the purchase of Smart Boards, ELMO’s and other technology for in Gorrie classrooms.

In the 2009-2010 academic year, Foundation pledged additional funds to complete the school-wide installation of Smart Boards and additional computer technology.  Additionally, Foundation will fund a portion of the installation cost of wireless internet at Gorrie.

Academic Support:

In the past two years Foundation has funded additional training for Gorrie Teachers.  The MAGIC program provides tutorial support to Gorrie students.

Sports:

In recent years, Foundation paid for the installation of 4 additional basketball hoops so that the students can get more out of PE time.  Foundation is currently considering the possibility of funding additional/replacement playground equipment.
